PROGRAM: SAN FRANCISCO COLLEGE ACCESS CENTER (SFCAC)

Location: various SFUSD high school sites
Hourly: $13 per hour; Part-Time Position, Monday– Friday, 20-25 hrs/wk, some evenings and weekends. This is a 10-12 month contract position. Possible extension of the position will be based on job performance and program funding.

Qualification Requirements:
1) Must be currently enrolled in college as an undergraduate or graduate student for the Fall 09' academic year.
2) Must demonstrate that you are the recipient of some type of financial need such as grants, loans, or work-study for the Fall 09' academic year.

The San Francisco College Access Center’s (SFCAC) mission is to provide culturally relevant, comprehensive college preparation information and assistance. Although open to the community, the program targets students who are low income and/or first of their family to attend postsecondary education programs. SFCAC is a collaborative program focusing on service coordination, enhancement, and expansion.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: The Educational Advisor reports directly to the Program Manager. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

Direct Service/Outreach
1. To identify, select and serve eligible participants at local schools and community sites based on Cal-SOAP eligibility criteria
2. Assess and determine participants’ educational needs and academic potential.
3. Provide high school, college and career counseling to individuals and groups to encourage participants to complete secondary school and enroll in postsecondary schools.
4. Advocate for the participant with secondary schools for re-enrollment and retention of the participants in the school system.
5. Assist participants in completing applications for college admissions, financial aid, entrance exams and scholarships.
6.Coordinate and chaperon college campus and vocational field trips
7.Participate in community outreach events, school and college fairs, conferences and trainings.
8.Participate in Career Technical Education (CTE) advising and workshop at designated work sites

Administrative
1. Manage a caseload of 100 high school students who will receive "intensive contacts/services" as defined by SFCAC program guidelines
2. Maintain and complete participants' files with all required documentation for all students in caseload
3. Provide support to target SFUSD high school counseling staff and collaborate on events that complement SFCAC program timeline.

Other program participation
1. Participate in other SFCAC, and intra-agency meetings, activities, committees, conferences, retreats, etc., as appropriate.
2. Perform related duties as needed.


JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education: High school diploma required.
Experience: Minimum of 1 or more years experience working with youth providing support services and/or understanding of obstacles of youth who are low-income and first in their families to attend college; experience in conducting presentations and activity planning; Effective verbal and written communication skills; team player; and possess strong organizational and follow-through skills; Proficient in MS Word and Excel and knowledgeable in Power Point. Experience working with diverse student populations and bilingual preferred (Spanish, Mandarin and/or Cantonese) preferred. Knowledge of community activities, resources and programs for youth in SF and ability to work cooperatively with secondary school faculty and community agency staff, desired.
